Joint:

A joint is a point or location at which two or more bones meet. Joints are classified on the basis of the amount of degree of movement allowed by them into three types ;

(1)Immovable Joints:

There joints do not show any movement as they are fixed and immovable. For example, the joints between the bones of the skull.

(2)Slightly Moveable Joints:

Theae joints show a very limited or slight movement. For example joints between the vertebrae.

(3)Freely Moveable Joints:

These joints show various free movements. For example, sholder joints, hip joints, elbow joints and knee joints. There are many types of moveable joints in the body. There are twi types of freely moveable joints

(a) Hinge Joints:

These joints move back and forth like the hinge on a dorr and allow movements in one plane only, i.e, in two directions. For example, knee joint, elbow joints and fingure joints.

(b) Ball and Socket Joints:

These joints allownthe movement in many directions. These joints provide maximum flexibility because these have two pairs of muscles present perpendicular to each other. For example, sholder and hip girdles.
